Delta Airlines has had to change routes for some its scheduled flights to the Northern Hemisphere due to a Solar storm that has begun on Tuesday.
According to experts, this is one of the most powerful solar storms since 2003 and, given the right weather conditions, could lead to spectacular aurora borealis being seen in the Northern parts of the UK and Scotland.
There is a small possibility that the northern lights might be spotted from London too, but that would require a clear night because the aurora is above cloud levels.
The best time to see the aurora is between 10pm and 2am
Judging from ticket sales, the most popular Olympic sport amongst British politicians is beach volley. According to former labour sports minister, Gerry Sutcliffe, government departments have bought 410 beach volleyball tickets, compared to just 246 for athletics.
This might come as a bit of surprise considering British athletes are not renowned for their beach volley skills, but the fact that the event taking place at the Horse Guards Parade, in Whitehall, became one of the fastest events to sell out at the Games, would seem to suggest it is not only politicians that are interested in watching half naked muscular and tanned men and women jumping around on sand.
According to a latest study carried out in Spain and published in the British Medical Journal, there is no association between the frequency of fried food consumption and the incidence of serious heart diseases provided olive and sunflower oils are used for the frying.
Commenting on the findings, Victoria Taylor, senior heart health dietitian at the British Heart Foundation, said:
"We currently recommend swapping saturated fats like butter, lard or palm oil for unsaturated fats as a way of keeping your cholesterol down and this study gives further cause to make that switch.
“Regardless of the cooking methods used, consuming foods with high fat content means a high calorie intake. This can lead to weight gain and obesity, which is a risk factor for heart disease.
"A well-balanced diet, with plenty of fruit and vegetables and only a small amount of high fat foods, is best for a healthy heart.”
