Santa Claus was born sometime in the 4th century AD in Myra, in the Provence of Lycia which used to be in Greece, but is now in Turkey.
At birth he was named Nicholas, but, because of the generosity he demonstrated towards the poor, he soon became known as Saint Nicholas.
900 years later, Nicholas emigrated to Germany and changed his name to Odin. He started riding an eight-legged horse named Sleipnir and rewarding all the children who filled their boots with food for his precious horse, with gifts or candy.
As the number of children wanting to feed the horse increased, Odin realised that Sleipnir was becoming too fat and that he did not have enough gifts for all the children.
He decided that it wasn't enough just to feed his horse once a year. Children had to behave properly all-year-round to deserve his gifts.
He now needed a team to keep constant track of the behaviour of all the children of the world and, on a cold december night sometime in the 16th century, he renamed himself Sinterklaas and opened a company in the Netherlands with a team of short men in green hats. The aim of the company being to reward children according to their merit.
Sinterklaas' company started doing so well that he had to open branches in many different countries. For a while he accepted rebranding according to local traditions, hence became known as "Tomte" in Scandinavian countries and Father Christmas in Anglican ones, but in the 19th century he decided that Santa Claus was the name that most children would be likely to remember.
To this day Santa Claus works actively on the 24th of December bringing presents to all the children who believe in him and who behave well.
For the adults, instead, it's Urbanbite which takes over this role according to Odin's original principles, reversed to fit into 21th century social and economic values:
At any time during the year, adults can choose to offer gifts in the form of cash or credit card payments to Urbanbite restaurants in exchange for some delicious takeaway food.
