2011 BRITISH CURRY AWARDS and ERIC PICKLE'C CURRY COLLEGE

Monday 28th saw the cream of the curry industry gather at the Battersea Evolution for this year's prize giving at the British Curry Awards.

VIPs including the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, the Employment Minister Chris Grayling and various celebrities including, Max Clifford, David Seaman and Charlie Brooker attended the ceremony to testify the importance of the curry food industry which alone contributes £3.5 bn a year to the UK economy and employs more than 100.000 people.

Although the winners have not yet been rendered public on the event's website www.britishcurryaward.co.uk,">www.britishcurryaward.co.uk,">www.britishcurryaward.co.uk, the press has revealed that the event organiser, Mr. Enam Ali, used the occasion to partially polemize with Communities Secretary Eric Pickles and his controversial plan to institute a curry college to teach UK residents how to make good curry.

Although the curry industry is badly in need of trained local chefs after stricter immigration laws have made it more difficult to recruit them abroad, Mr. Ali has declared that the budget for Pickle's college would be better spent by running courses in existing colleges in conjunction with local restaurants. This way:

"Once equipped with the necessary basic skills, students could spend part of their week in college and part learning on the job in a restaurant. This to us seems a far more practical and potentially less costly solution that would allow those wanting to make a career in the industry to study closer to home rather than having to move away to a centralised location.” quote taken from www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/9391355.Cream_of_curry_industry_gather_for_British_Curry_Awards/">www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/9391355.Cream_of_curry_industry_gather_for_British_Curry_Awards/">www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/9391355.Cream_of_curry_industry_gather_for_British_Curry_Awards/

The results of the 2011 British Curry Awards will be published soon. In the meantime Urbanbite is proud to announce that the winner of last year's edition for the Scottish region was one of the restaurants on our website:
